Bachelor of Songwriting and Music Production
This comprehensive degree equips aspiring songwriters with the essential tools and skills to craft compelling music that resonates with publishers, record labels, producers, and audiences across genres and media platforms.
Designed to cultivate both creativity and technical expertise, the program empowers you to write original songs, develop instrumental proficiency, produce high-quality demos, and deliver engaging performances. You will master the art of blending powerful lyrics with captivating melodies, while gaining a solid foundation in song form, structure, melodic development, harmony, top-lining, and writing for ensembles using both acoustic and electronic instrumentation.
A key component of the program is the weekly one-on-one mentoring sessions within your major study, Directed Songwriting, where you will develop a substantial folio of original works. This includes writing, producing, recording, and/or performing your songs as part of a professional portfolio. In your final year, you will complete a major capstone project that may feature a live recital alongside recorded work.
The degree also offers in-depth training in digital music production, including the use of industry-standard software such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and Ableton Live for recording and producing, Sibelius for arranging and notation, and Musition and Auralia to deepen your knowledge of music theory and ear training.
You will also explore key aspects of the modern music industry, including co-writing and collaboration, music marketing and distribution, monetisation, and copyright management. By the time you graduate, you will have created a rich and professional portfolio of original songs—ready to present to the global music industry.
